SFFD Guidelines for Emergency Evacuation Signs Meeting - February 10, 2010

BOMA San Francisco Members:

At the BOMA San Francisco Codes and Regulations Committee on January 27, 2010, the members of the committee elicited concern regarding the size requirements for new emergency evacuation signs (above).  It seems that the size required is more than double the previous version of the sign and is now impractical to post in commercial office buildings; it also costs significantly more.

Your BOMA San Francisco Advocacy Team requests that you attend a special meeting with San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) Fire Marshal Barbara Schultheis and SFFD Captain Bill Mitchell on February 10, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the BOMA San Francisco office (233 Sansome Street, 8th Floor) for the purposes of reviewing and making recommendations to modify the recently adopted regulations pertaining to new evacuation signage. It is important that these regulations be made more flexible and more relevant to privately-owned office buildings.

Please click here to read the current regulations: Submittal Guidelines for Emergency Evacuation Signs (effective as of 11/2/09).

If you cannot attend the meeting, please send your feedback to BOMA San Francisco's Director of Government and Public Affairs, Ken Cleaveland at kenc@boma.com
