A Look Ahead: Transbay Demolition and Construction Activities



BOMA San Francisco Members:

Weekend Work (5/14/11 – 5/15/11):

Pile extraction activities will continue in the east lot on Saturday, May 14 from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM between Beale and Fremont Streets. Saturday work will also include relocation of the crane.

No work will be performed this Sunday, May 15 due to the 100th running of the Bay to Breakers.

Weekday Work (5/16/11 – 5/20/11):
Weekday work will take place between Monday, May 16 and Friday, May 20. All contractors will work between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Activities will include:

Pile extraction & Trenching: Work will continue at the east transit center site and will continue through the end of May between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM.

Shoring & Excavation Prep: Work will continue at the central and west transit center sites and will continue through the end of May between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM.

Demolition: Demolition work will continue through the end of May on lots south of Natoma Street between First and Second Streets between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, and on the old bus ramp footings between Howard and Harrison Street. Demolition activities also include utilizing the Crusher/Conveyors to stockpile fill at the west transit center site. Demolition work will begin on selected buildings along Natoma Street.

Geotech: Instrumentation installation will continue this week on Minna Street located between First and Second Streets, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Underground utilities/ trenching work:

Minna Street (from First to Second Streets): Utilities work, sidewalk and pavement repairs

Natoma Street (from Fremont to First Streets): Trenching, utilities work and road pavement repairs

Second, First, Fremont and Beale Streets (from Mission to Howard Streets): Utilities work, sidewalk and pavement repairs

Detours, Street and Sidewalk Closures:

The following streets will be temporarily impacted due to project activities. So you can plan ahead please review the affected streets below:

Fremont Street: Fremont Street will have a long term change to traffic lanes reduced from four down to three between Howard and Mission. The eastern bus lane is eliminated long term to allow shoring and pile pulling work on the east side of Fremont Street.

The Fremont Street east sidewalk will remain closed. Pedestrians must use the west side of Fremont Street until further notice.

First Street: Lane restrictions will remain on First Street between Mission and Howard Streets between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Second, Fremont and Beale Streets: Lane restrictions will remain in effect on Second, Fremont and Beale Streets (between Mission and Howard Streets) between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Howard Street: Lane restrictions will remain in effect on Howard Street between Main and First Streets between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Natoma Street: Lane restrictions and parking prohibition will be in effect Natoma between First and Fremont Street from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Local access will be granted via Fremont Street; cars may exit at First Street.

Minna Street: Lane restrictions and parking prohibition will continue on Minna between First and Second Street from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Local access to Minna Street will be granted via First Street; cars may exit off of Minna at Second Street.

The Minna Street north sidewalk will remain closed. Pedestrians must use the temporary sidewalk until street lighting and sidewalk repairs are complete next week.

Clementina Street: A portion of the Clementina Street south sidewalk will be impacted due to trenching work this week. Pedestrians are recomended to use the north side of Clementina Street until further notice.

What to Expect Next Weekend (5/21/11 - 5/22/11): 

Underground utility work will continue on Beale Street and at the Intersection of Howard and Beale Street Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Detours and lane restrictions will be in effect.

Pile extraction activities will continue in the east lot on Saturday, May 21 from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM between Beale and Fremont Streets.

Reminder: Local Businesses Are Open During Construction!

As work continues to build the new Transbay Transit Center in the South of Market neighborhood, we would like to remind our neighbors that local businesses in the project area remain open during construction. Visit Sal at Reynoso Florist at his new location immediately across from the former Transbay Terminal at 450 Mission Street (at First St). Many of you may know Sal as the florist who was previously located outside of the old Transbay Terminal. After running a family owned business for 21 years, Sal has an eye for color and a skill for beautiful arrangements; he will guarantee to make that special occasion unforgettable.
